Six money-saving ideas for university students

Find a way to make more money

The bottom line consists of two parts, what you earn and money you spend. There are plenty of ways to make  money. You can make money online, like at with a website or as a contractor on elance, or figure out numerous ways to make extra money in the real world. Check out Steve Pavlina to learn more.

Buy old textbooks

I sometimes forget to buy stuff until the last second but if you’re organized you could most likely save a lot of money a year on books in university.

Get a bike

Rather than driving a car, you may be able to save money by biking everywhere. Of course, it may turn out cheaper to have a car in certain circumstances but you may find out it’s a good way to save money.

Don’t have a credit card

Credit card can be dangerous weapons.  Be careful. If you don’t watch out, you can rack up thousands. On top of that you have to pay finance charge and late fees, so pay it off completely each month.

Buy quality not quantity

Cutting corners doesn’t always save money. You may think you are saving money but spending 100 dollars less on a computer that breaks a year earlier than a better quality computer is not a good investment.

Graduate early

This may or may not be a good idea depending on your personal situation but you may be able to save a semester of tuition. I personally wouldn’t have wanted to do this because college was a lot of fun but I could’ve taken a semester off and then graduated on time.
